Nintendo has officially announced Star Fox, a cinematic reimagining of Star Fox 64 coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25.

The new title modernizes the classic rail-shooter with a complete visual overhaul, revamped character designs, fully voiced cutscenes, and an orchestral soundtrack. Players will once again step into the role of Fox McCloud as the Star Fox team battles Andross to save the Lylat System.

Nintendo says the game expands on the original experience with reworked planets, alternate routes, new mission briefings, and updated gameplay systems designed specifically for Switch 2 hardware.

The game includes several modes:

  • Campaign Mode with branching paths and unlockable Expert difficulty
  • Challenge Mode featuring additional objectives and missions
  • Battle Mode, a new 4-vs-4 multiplayer mode supporting up to eight players online or locally

Battle Mode allows players to join Team Star Fox or Team Star Wolf across objective-based matches on maps like Corneria, Fichina, and Sector Y.

Switch 2-exclusive additions include Joy-Con 2 mouse controls for precision aiming, GameChat integration, and AR avatar filters that let players appear as Star Fox characters during online chats.

Pre-orders for Star Fox are available now via the Nintendo eShop ahead of its June 25 release.
