Xbox Game Studios and The Coalition have announced that Gears of War: E-Day will launch on October 6 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game will also be available day one on Game Pass.
The announcement finally puts a release date on one of Xbox’s most anticipated exclusives, while also seemingly ending speculation about a PlayStation 5 version. Despite recent ratings suggesting a PS5 release could be in the works, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day will launch as an “Xbox console exclusive.”
Set 14 years before the original Gears of War, E-Day tells the story of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as they experience the Locust Horde’s devastating first attack on humanity. The prequel promises a darker, horror-focused tone as players fight through the chaos of Emergence Day.
Alongside the campaign, The Coalition is bringing back competitive multiplayer and introducing Horde Siege, a larger-scale evolution of the franchise’s iconic co-op survival mode featuring bigger maps, shared objectives, and massive boss encounters.
Built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, E-Day will feature 4K visuals, up to 60 FPS gameplay, cross-platform multiplayer, and support for handheld devices including Steam Deck and Xbox Ally.
With its focus on Marcus and Dom’s origins, revamped multiplayer offerings, and a return to the series’ darker roots, Gears of War: E-Day is shaping up to be one of Xbox’s biggest releases of 2026.
