Xbox Game Studios is undergoing another significant leadership change, with studio head Craig Duncan and chief of staff Louise O’Connor both set to leave the company this week.
Duncan departs after roughly 18 months as head of Xbox Game Studios, a role he assumed in late 2024 following the departure of former studio chief Alan Hartman. O’Connor, who joined the leadership team in 2025, leaves after nearly a year as chief of staff.
Both executives previously held senior positions at Rare before moving into Xbox leadership. Duncan spent more than a decade leading the studio behind Sea of Thieves, while O’Connor served in multiple roles including executive producer, incubation director, and art director.
In a farewell message to staff, Duncan reflected on his time overseeing Xbox’s first-party studios, highlighting the company’s recent game launches and efforts to strengthen collaboration across development teams.
“Together, we set out to deliver high-quality games, strengthen the cultural fabric across our studios, and help shape the future of the business,” Duncan wrote.
He also praised O’Connor for her contributions, describing her as a trusted partner who consistently supported Xbox’s studios and creative teams.
Until a replacement is appointed, the studios previously overseen by Duncan will report directly to Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty.
The departures come during a period of significant transition for Xbox, following recent reports of restructuring efforts and broader changes within Microsoft’s gaming division.
