Warhorse Studios developer’s of the Kingdom Come games has officially confirmed it is developing an open-world RPG set in The Lord of the Rings universe.

The studio shared the news in a social media post, writing:

“You might have heard the rumours, it’s time to reveal what we are working on.

An open world Middle-earth RPG.

A new Kingdom Come adventure.

We’re excited to tell you more when the time is right.”

The announcement comes shortly after reports that Amazon Games had cancelled its own in-development Lord of the Rings MMO, making Warhorse’s project one of the biggest newly confirmed Tolkien-based games currently in development.

Best known for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Warhorse has built a reputation around immersive open-world RPG systems, grounded storytelling, and detailed world simulation. That has already sparked major curiosity about how the studio’s design philosophy could translate into Middle-earth.

The announcement also confirms the studio is simultaneously working on another Kingdom Come project alongside the new Tolkien RPG.

No platforms, release window, or gameplay details have been revealed yet, but with Warhorse now officially attached to the franchise, expectations are already sky-high among RPG fans.
