After years of uncertainty, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake may finally have a tentative release window.
Steve Allison, Saber Interactive’s newly appointed Chief Business Officer, has suggested the long-awaited remake could arrive in 2028, offering one of the clearest indications yet that the project remains in active development.
Following his recent promotion, Allison answered questions from fans online about Saber’s future plans. During the discussion, he outlined what the studio hopes will be a busy 2028 release schedule.
Part of his response was preserved and shared on the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 subreddit before the original post was deleted.
Discussing Saber’s upcoming slate, Allison wrote:
“That includes Space Marine, [John] Wick, hopefully KOTOR Remake, and a few unannounced titles.”
The wording is notable, particularly the inclusion of “hopefully,” suggesting that while Saber is targeting a 2028 launch for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, the timeline is not yet locked in.
Saber Confirms the Post Was Authentic
Following the post’s removal, PC Gamer contacted Saber Interactive for clarification.
The studio confirmed that the comments did indeed come from Allison but stressed that they should not be treated as an official announcement regarding the company’s projects or release schedules.
While that means fans shouldn’t take 2028 as a confirmed launch window, the comments do provide further reassurance that the remake remains in development.
A Long Road Since 2021
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake was first announced in 2021, but the project has faced a turbulent development cycle.
Reports of internal restructuring, changes in development responsibilities, and years of limited communication left many fans questioning whether the remake would ever see the light of day.
Although Saber Interactive has repeatedly stated that work on the game is continuing, official updates have been scarce.
Allison’s comments represent one of the strongest public indications in some time that the project is still moving forward.
No Focus on Microtransactions
Elsewhere in the discussion, Allison touched on Saber’s philosophy regarding post-launch monetisation.
While he acknowledged that some of the company’s games may receive paid downloadable content, he made it clear that microtransactions are not part of Saber’s business model.
According to Allison:
“We’ve never pursued MTX. It’s not how we do our products.”
The statement is likely to be welcomed by fans, particularly given growing concerns around monetisation in modern AAA releases.
For now, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake remains one of the industry’s most anticipated projects. While a 2028 launch is far from guaranteed, Allison’s comments offer renewed optimism that the legendary RPG is finally making meaningful progress.
