Katana ZERO Creator Says Upcoming DLC Is Now the Size of a Full Sequel

After more than seven years of development, the long-awaited expansion has grown considerably, featuring over 30 new soundtrack tracks and is still planned to release for free.

The long-awaited Katana ZERO DLC has reached an impressive milestone, with creator Justin Stander confirming that the expansion has grown to the size of a full sequel.

In a recent social media update, Stander revealed that the additional content now features more than 30 new soundtrack songs. While the announcement offers an encouraging update for fans, no release date has been confirmed.

Developed by Askiisoft and published by Devolver Digital, Katana ZERO originally launched in 2019. The DLC has been teased for years, with a trailer released in April 2025 confirming that development was still ongoing and that the expansion was intended to remain free.

Interestingly, despite the promise of a free release, many fans have encouraged Stander to consider charging for the content given its growing scope.

For those unfamiliar, Katana ZERO is a neo-noir action platformer built around fast-paced combat, precise parrying and instant-death encounters. Its distinctive pixel art and demanding gameplay helped it earn overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam and an 83 Metascore.

With the DLC now reportedly reaching sequel-sized proportions, anticipation among fans is understandably high. However, players will have to wait for further updates before finding out when they can finally return to the world of Katana ZERO.
