Gearbox Software and 2K have unveiled Borderlands 4’s Version 1.8 update, bringing a substantial mix of free and premium content when it launched on June 25. The update introduces a new story expansion, the game’s first endgame raid, Cross-Platform Saves, and fresh details on what’s coming later this year.

Headlining the paid content is Bounty Pack 3: A Zane to Kill For, a new narrative expansion that sends Vault Hunters into a neon-noir arcade simulation to investigate the murder of Zane’s Digi-Clone backup. The repeatable adventure features an all-new boss, two mini-bosses, and a fresh batch of high-tier loot.
Launching alongside the story DLC is Vault Card 3, which offers players new progression rewards, including 24 arcade-themed cosmetic items and four rerollable gear pieces.

On the free side, all players who have completed the main campaign will gain access to Takedown at Hadron Abyss, Borderlands 4’s first endgame raid. Set within a submerged research facility overrun by mutated creatures and aquatic predators, the raid culminates in a showdown with the Child of Terramorphous. Enemy scaling supports solo and co-op play, while optional Mayhem Levels and Hardcore Mode raise the challenge even further.
Successful Vault Hunters can earn a range of exclusive rewards, including a new Pearlescent weapon, nine Legendary items, and five new Class Mods. A sixth Class Mod will be added later this year alongside the next playable Vault Hunter.
Version 1.8 also introduces Cross-Platform Saves, allowing players to seamlessly transfer their progress between any platform where they own Borderlands 4.
Gearbox also offered a look at the game’s post-launch roadmap. Bounty Pack 4: Murders & Acquisitions is scheduled to launch on July 30 with Version 1.9, while Story Pack 2 arrives in early September alongside Bounty Pack 5. The update will introduce Loveless the Hacker, a new playable Vault Hunter.

Loveless is described as a former Anshin hacker turned assassin whose advanced cybernetics are paired with a sentient digital virus capable of manifesting into a deadly physical form, giving players an entirely new combat style to master.
Players who own the Borderlands 4 Super Deluxe Edition will receive all upcoming Bounty Packs and Story Packs as part of the included season content, while Deluxe Edition owners receive access to the Bounty Pack Bundle. Individual DLC purchases will also be available.
