Bethesda Game Studios has shared one of its biggest studio updates in years, outlining its long-term plans for Starfield, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls while confirming several new projects currently in development.
In a message addressed directly to players, the studio reflected on its 40-year history before revealing what’s next for its biggest franchises. From Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remasters to new Starfield content and an update on The Elder Scrolls VI, Bethesda painted a clearer picture of its roadmap for the years ahead.
Starfield Support Continues Into Year Three
Bethesda confirmed that Starfield remains a major pillar of the studio’s future.
Since launch, the sci-fi RPG has surpassed 17 million players, who have collectively logged nearly one billion hours exploring the Settled Systems.
As the game enters its third year, players can expect:
- New story content
- Gameplay improvements
- Additional updates
- New Starborn content arriving next year
Bethesda also revealed that more than 40% of players use the game’s Creations system, with the studio promising continued investment in community-created content.
Fallout Remasters Confirmed
Perhaps the biggest announcement for long-time Fallout fans is confirmation that Bethesda is actively working on remasters of both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
While the studio stopped short of announcing release dates, it acknowledged that fans have been asking to revisit earlier entries in the series and confirmed both projects are currently in development.
Multiple Fallout Projects in Development
Bethesda says Fallout is now one of the company’s highest priorities.
Although Fallout 5 remains the franchise’s long-term destination, the studio confirmed that multiple Fallout projects are currently in active development.
Among the announcements:
- Fallout 76 will receive a major expansion next year titled Raven Rock, serving as a prequel to Fallout 3.
- Fallout 4 has surpassed 35 million copies sold, coinciding with its 10th anniversary.
- Fallout Shelter has now exceeded 250 million players, with new Seasons planned for the mobile title.
- An unscripted Fallout Shelter television series is in development alongside Amazon Studios and Kilter Films.
Bethesda also congratulated Amazon and Kilter Films on Fallout Season 2’s ten Emmy nominations, while confirming that Season 3 is already in production.
The studio added that although there won’t be a traditional Fallout Day broadcast this year, fans can expect a special live celebration in Washington, D.C. during Fallout’s 30th anniversary in 2027.
Obsidian Returns to Fallout
Another major announcement saw Bethesda confirm that Obsidian Entertainment is once again collaborating with the studio on a brand-new Fallout project.
No additional details were shared, but the news marks another partnership between the developer of Fallout: New Vegas and Bethesda under Microsoft’s ownership.
The Elder Scrolls VI Remains Bethesda’s Primary Focus
Bethesda also provided its clearest update yet on The Elder Scrolls VI.
The studio confirmed that the vast majority of its development team is currently focused on the long-awaited RPG, while Fallout 5 remains in pre-production.
Both titles are now being developed using Creation Engine 3, a new version of Bethesda’s in-house technology designed to allow multiple large-scale RPGs to be developed simultaneously.
Despite acknowledging the lengthy wait since Skyrim, Bethesda says development is progressing as planned.
“We’re where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day.”
A Bigger Future for Bethesda
Beyond individual games, Bethesda says it is investing heavily in the future of its technology, live-service support, and internal collaboration.
The studio confirmed that ZeniMax Online Studios will work more closely with Bethesda Game Studios on The Elder Scrolls franchise while continuing development of The Elder Scrolls Online.
According to Bethesda, bringing its teams together will help it release games faster, support them longer, and continue expanding its biggest worlds for years to come.
For fans of Bethesda’s RPGs, the update offers a promising glimpse into what’s ahead. While release dates remain scarce, the studio has made one thing clear: Starfield, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls will remain at the heart of Bethesda’s future for the foreseeable future.
