Tomb Raider: Catalyst Delayed to 2028

Fans hoping to continue Lara Croft’s next adventure will have to wait a little longer, with Tomb Raider: Catalyst officially slipping to 2028.

The updated release window was revealed by Amazon Games’ Head of Gaming, Jeffrey Gattis, during a recent interview with The Game Business, confirming the sequel has been pushed back from its previously announced 2027 launch window.

Another Delay for the Tomb Raider Franchise

The delay follows a similar setback for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which was originally scheduled for 2026 before being moved to February 12, 2027 earlier this year.

Both titles were unveiled during The Game Awards 2025, with Legacy of Atlantis positioned as the first entry in Amazon’s new Tomb Raider publishing partnership and Catalyst planned to follow a year later.

That roadmap has now shifted, with Catalyst becoming a 2028 release.

While discussing Amazon’s long-term plans for its Luna cloud gaming platform, Gattis briefly outlined the company’s upcoming AAA lineup.

Speaking about Amazon’s original content strategy, he said:

“Atlantis comes February 12 next year, and then we’ll follow on in 2028 with the next one.”

Although Gattis didn’t specifically address the reason behind the delay, his comments confirmed that Catalyst will no longer arrive in 2027.

No Official Reason Given

Neither Amazon Games, Crystal Dynamics, nor Flying Wild Hog has publicly commented on why Tomb Raider: Catalyst has been delayed.

It’s unclear whether the decision is tied to Amazon’s broader publishing strategy, development timelines, or a desire to ensure the game meets expectations before release.

With Legacy of Atlantis now launching in early 2027, the additional development time could also allow the studios to focus on delivering that title before shifting attention to the next chapter in the franchise.

Despite the news, early community reaction has been largely positive.

Following years of high-profile launches affected by technical issues and rushed development schedules, many fans have expressed support for giving both Tomb Raider projects additional time if it results in a more polished experience.

For now, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis remains on track to launch on February 12, 2027, while Tomb Raider: Catalyst is now expected to follow sometime in 2028.
