CD Projekt RED has reduced the team working on Project Sirius as development on The Witcher multiplayer game continues to face setbacks. Development on Project Sirius, CD Projekt RED’s standalone multiplayer game set in The Witcher universe, has hit another bump in the road.
The company has confirmed that nine developers have been laid off, while another nine employees have been moved to other projects within CD Projekt RED. The changes reduce the Project Sirius team from 83 people to 65.
According to the company, the decision was made to better reflect the project’s current needs.
A Troubled Development So Far
Project Sirius has already had a difficult journey. The game was originally being developed by The Molasses Flood before the studio was integrated into CD Projekt RED, and development was rebooted back in 2023 as the company looked to reassess the project and cut costs.
Despite the setbacks, CD Projekt RED is still continuing development on Sirius. Early reports have suggested the game could offer an interesting new take on The Witcher universe, but with another reduction in staff and a previous reboot already behind it, questions are naturally being raised about how the project is progressing.
For now, Project Sirius remains in development, but its road to release is looking increasingly complicated.
