Fans of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag have reason to get excited as Matt Ryan, the iconic voice behind Edward Kenway, recently dropped a tantalizing hint that a remake of the beloved pirate adventure could be on the horizon.

At a recent fan event, Ryan was signing autographs and chatting with attendees when a fan mentioned having completed Black Flag. Ryan’s response was cryptic yet intriguing: “Well, you might have to beat it again.” When pressed further, he added, “There’s a reason I say that, but I can’t say anything.” Such a statement has set the Assassin’s Creed community abuzz with speculation, fueling hopes of an official announcement from Ubisoft.

The possibility of a Black Flag remake has been swirling in industry circles for months. Back in late 2024, rumors surfaced that Ubisoft is actively developing the remake using their advanced Anvil engine. Insider reports suggest that early gameplay footage has already been shared with select insiders, indicating that the project is well underway.

Supporting these rumors, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that multiple Assassin’s Creed remakes are currently in development. However, none have been officially revealed yet, and Black Flag remains the top candidate among fans due to its enduring popularity and unique pirate setting.

For many players, Black Flag is a standout in the series, combining rich naval combat, open-world exploration, and a captivating story centered on Edward Kenway’s transformation from rogue pirate to skilled Assassin. The prospect of revisiting the Caribbean’s vast seas with updated graphics and modern gameplay improvements has sparked tremendous excitement.

While Ubisoft has yet to make an official statement about a Black Flag remake, Matt Ryan’s recent comments add significant fuel to the fire. Fans are eagerly watching for any further clues or announcements that might confirm the return of Edward Kenway’s swashbuckling saga.

If Ubisoft does move forward with the remake, it could become one of the most anticipated releases in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Until then, the community remains hopeful and ready to once again set sail on the high seas.
