Nintendo’s August 2025 Indie World Showcase Brings a Wave of Fresh Ideas to Switch and Switch 2

Lot’s to see

Nintendo’s latest Indie World Showcase may have only run for about fifteen minutes, but it managed to pack in an impressive spread of new titles, quirky concepts, and a few pleasant surprises for fans of smaller-scale games. Streaming live on August 7, the presentation offered a look at what’s ahead for both the current Nintendo Switch and its upcoming successor, the Switch 2.

While some viewers arrived with one question Will Hollow Knight: Silksong finally appear? that hope was quickly put to rest. The anticipated sequel didn’t make the cut, and Nintendo made no mention of it. But that absence didn’t dampen the rest of the show.

One of the most talked-about announcements was Mina the Hollower, a Game Boy Color-inspired action adventure from the team behind Shovel Knight. The demo went live during the presentation, giving players an immediate chance to try out its whip-cracking combat ahead of its October 31 release.

Fans of eerie atmospheres got their fix with Well Dweller, an eldritch-themed side-scrolling Metroidvania due in 2026, and Neverway, a horror-flavoured life sim that’s equal parts unsettling and intriguing. Both titles stood out for their strong visual identities and the promise of unusual storytelling.

The show also highlighted smaller, more relaxing experiences. Herdling charmed viewers with its serene migration gameplay and arrives later this month on August 21. In a surprise move, Is This Seat Taken?, a minimalist puzzle game, dropped on the eShop the moment it was announced.

Elsewhere, the cozy-exploration hit Little Kitty, Big City rolled out a playful “Picture Purrfect” photo-mode update, while upcoming projects like Ultimate Sheep Raccoon and Glaciered reminded everyone that indie games often deliver some of the most unpredictable ideas in gaming.

Rounding out the showcase were a handful of promising releases on the near and distant horizon: Winter Burrow, Undusted: Letters from the Past, Tiny Bookshop (out now), Caves of Qud, Strange Antiquities (September 17), Opus: Prism Peak (Autumn 2025), and Go-Go Town! (Spring 2026).

Nintendo’s Indie World Showcases have always been a celebration of variety, and this one was no different. From creepy corridors to cozy villages, the August 2025 edition proved once again that some of the boldest ideas in gaming still come from small teams with big imaginations.
